Nice !

Pretty nice intro man.I like the percussion (low-fi + band pass???).
The drop is sweet also.I think that the track needs a darker (lower keys and maybe some glide instead of climbing notes) bassline and general feel to it.The bass itself sounds a bit too wide so maybe look up the stereo imaging. Also it sounds like it has more distortion than it needs and could use a thicker, deeper (not so growly) synth layered with it.Sub could be a little stronger in my opinion (maybe a couple of dB more?).The kick is nice and punchy but i think it has a nasty tail (probably from the sub kick) that has to be removed.I don't think the snare needs any work, its pretty massive. Also the whole mix sounds a bit harsh on the high frequencies.Maybe you have some EQ on the master or multiband compressing.
So that's it, i hope i gave you some useful thoughts.
Keep up the great work !!!

Now THAT's some good feedback. Thanks for that, man. I'll definitely take that stuff into consideration. You'll have to forgive me if the EQ is a bit off, usually I have a sound system I can play this out of to check the mastering but I only had my trusty headphones this time around xD

Thanks again for that awesome review, man. It's always nice to get ones like that :)

A few tips and tricks.

First that catches my ear are the stereo drums.
1.Drums should be almost if not completely mono (same goes for sub bass).
2.Slap a few EQ's on the different mixer tracks.Every instrument has a place in a song.
For example the kick drum is almost always in the lower end of the bass band ( around 80- 120 Hz).Any frequencies below 80 Hz are not good for your kick (cut them with an EQ) drum. After you do that you can add a SUB kick that sits in the sub bass band (40-80 Hz).To get the snare to sound best it needs to be peaking around 220-240 Hz (everything below 180-200 Hz should be cut).
3.String instrument, leads, ambient sounds....... and so on , should have better presence in the mid-high range of the track (low band cutting again).

About the track itself, i pretty liked the melodies, but i'm not too fond of the amen (as a longtime drum and bass lover) anymore, its too overused.
So there you go, i hope i was of some use to you :)

Cheers !

PS.The frequencies i mentioned may not be completely accurate if you are aiming at producing lighter-liquid drum and bass tracks.

ectsoman responds:

Thanks man, this is my first track and I'm really looking into sticking with DnB so all the advice I can get really helps.

Ultra sick bassline as usual :)

You are getting better my friend.
Still need mix your tracks properly, but the structure of the track is just awesome.
Drums are awesome too,but the hats are ringing a bit too much in my ears to be honest.
But really once again i have to tell that i am in awe at the complexity of your tracks !
Just keep on doing what you do best and you will be big in no time, trust me. :)

PS.I'd appreciate if you could drop a review on my latest (need some feedback).
Cheers !

SteakJohnson responds:

thanks ma3hbo! I will check up on those hats, and I shall review your song in good time that is.

Pretty good.

Kick and snare are nice but i think the hats are a bit anoying.Maybe add some thicker percussion instead of them. The bass feel a bit too mid range but that's nothing a good sub can't improve. Also take it a little easier with the sidechaining when the second drum loop hits.
Hmm ok i turned the volume up a bit and noticed that there is a sub going on.Sorry !
( i guess i shouldn't review on shitty headphones ).Giving it a second thought some harder drums will sound alot better.Maybe add a sub kick and make the snare a bit shorter and add some distortion ( just a tiny bit ).Well that's about all i can say for now.Maybe if a give it a second listen on my speakers i'll write something more.Hope to see a newer version by then.
Cheers and keep up the great work !

PS.I listened to some of your other tracks and i really liked them :)
Some good neuro sound you are producing.I'd really appreciate if you could drop a review on my latest WIP.

Great so far !

You recreated the bassline pretty nicely.Drums are nice and punchy but i think they could use some thicker percussion.Maybe process some short snappy snares into some sort of hats.
The opening hit sounds very similar to the intro of Dom & Roland's colab with Audio - Peace Keeper.
Sorry but i can't give you some better ideas cause i'm listening on a pair of very crappy office headphones.Hopefuly when i get back home i'll be able to give it another listen.
Cheers and keep up the great work !!!

I totally agree my friend, it needs alot of work but i might see too finishing it one day when i actually use the proper version of FL instead of the demo. Cheers for your review mate

Now thats something nice !

Damn man thats some quality stuff you made there !
Sounds a bit similar to Xilent (if you haven't heard of him look him up !!! ).
A very melodic and as you said "BIG" intro.Mastering doesn't sound too good overall but the amount of work you've put into this makes it a minor problem.
You've got a pretty nice neuro bass, but its gets a bit drowned out.I guess EQ is what you need the most. Also i think that some solid sub can do wonders in this one.I'd suggest putting a part with the bassline and a nice, strong sub after the half tempo breakdown you have.Well i can't think of any thing else right now but i hope i was of some use to you. You, my friend are now officially one of my favorite artist.Big UP and keep up the great work !

TheBiocide responds:

Good God! You just compared me to Xilent :D I'm truly flattered! Haha, thanks man!

And thanks for the review! I actually had some sub bass in there with the neuro bass, but my speakers cut out most low frequencies -_-' So it's a little difficult dealing with those low ends... please forgive me for that.

And thanks again for the compliments! Glad I'm one of your favorite artists now :) I've got plenty of tracks in the works so hopefully I'll be able to keep it that way.

Nice !

I'm really liking the ambient intro. The panning of the drums in the intro is quite nice. The arpy synth fits the mood of the track perfectly. Also your sub bass is very smooth.Drums are very good too (are those live drum samples?).You've made some quite nice drum fills throughout the song. The breakdown comes a bit too early imo but its quite nice as it is.Not sure about the gating when the second verse hits though. It may sound better without it.The outro is just magnificent man.The piano is superb and the fading background synths complete the atmosphere nicely.Overall i can't think of anything significant to improve here. You've put alot of work in this one.Cheers and keep up the great work !

TiGeR responds:

Hey, thanks for the great review!

Yeah, I like playing around with L/R panning and stuff and decided to make the gating as a nice feature. I agree it gets annoying after listening through the song a couple of t imes, so I'll keep that in mind for my next song!'

Once again, thanks and stay updated for more songs in the future!

~TiGeR

Edit: Nop, the drums are all done in Reason ^^, I like putting lots of details into the drums, and usually spend quite some time to perfecting it :).

Massif my friend !

Really liking this stuff. The had a nice ambient feel to it. The low fi effect on the pads (chords?) is a bit too hard imo.Lowering it a bit may sound better. The drop is a bit strange but i like it alot.Maybe some white noise sweeps will fit right.Drums are really good. The snare is lacking some low mid though.Bass synths are great.
I'd suggest putting a part with only a sub bass and some more FX ,cause it gets a bit repetitive after 1:44.Can't think of anything else for now.Guess you just need to spend some more time on the track and it will be ace.
Sounds pretty nice for a 128 (or is it 192?).Nice EQ and compression.
Cheers and keep up the good work !

Flamingweeny responds:

192 and no compression ;)
i know about the snare i lacks some punch...for a day's work and these ratings, expect some improvement :)

thanks man

MU HA HA HA !

You have been drawn by the dark side too :D
There is a serious thing bothering me.
How is this so much better mastered than your other tracks ?!?!?
So now lets get on with some reviewing :)
Bassline is damn good but adding some wobbles with different LFO rates once in a while (every 4 bars?) would be cool imo.Drums are quite nice too.The snare lacks some high end though.Maybe some more reverbed clap could do the trick.Listening to the track i think some fading ambient sounds will be nice in the main part. Also try adding some gating effect to the paino in the main part.
I think it could be nice (not sure though). As much as i like the current bass i feel you could improve it with some EQ on the kick (low cutting it a bit) and a sub bass.Well thats all i could think of, so i hope i was of some use to you.
Cheers and keep up the great work !

SteakJohnson responds:

I did go to the dark side lol, I appreciate the review. I think I just got lucky on the mastering with this one and I spent bunches of time on the snares and such.. Thanks for the suggestions! This started out as a hip-hop beat for a friend (the piano), and I was like screw it im dubsteppin it lol

Pretty good so far.

Only thing that bothered me was the pad.Its not flowing nicely.Add some reverb and delay and cut everything below, lets say 200Hz.That way the notes will follow each other and there won't be a pause between them. Also your kick needs some EQ imo.Boost it around 100Hz and cut the lower frequencies so it doesn't interact with your sub bass. The snare is pretty nice though.Drums overall are quite nice for an intro but consider adding more for the main part of the song.Maybe layer some more snares, cause this one is lacking some high end.Well that was it.I hope i was of some use to you.Cheers and keep up the good work !
