No need to argue.

It clearly is not dubstep. Its breakbeat and i quite like it :).
I'd suggest not bringing the snare at its max volume right from the start.
The kick is pretty nice, but i think it would be better if its a bit shorter.
Really liking your choice for a sub bass.It fits the track perfectly.
Good job with the mastering its really nice. Can't think of anything else, cause i'm a bit tired.Hope i was of some use to you.Keep up the good work !

RmxProject responds:

now you say breakbeat, i actually agree with that :P
yeah i would agree with you by saying it needs to be shorter..
yeah the snare is a tad loud at the start, i think its because i didnt limit the snare volume (because i used a limiter so no distortion is caused with the kick and bass)
i actually realy thank you with this comment, its helped me with making this better :)

cheers mate
Josh

As many have said before me.

The only thing holding you down is the mastering. Its a shame to have such a talent and no proper gear.I'm just hoping you get some hardware soon and show us all what you got ;).The bass synths are sick as usual and the drums are flowing pretty nice.
I'm not sure about that reverbed synth in the start of the loop though.Doesn't seem to fit the song.Well that was it from me.I'm hoping to hear some well mastered stuff from you in the near future, cause i'm sure it will be 10 times sicker.Keep up the good work bro !

PS.Check out my latest neurofunk track if you have some time.Cheers !

SteakJohnson responds:

Hey thanks man Ill be sure and check out your latest :), and yeah hopefully this summer Ill be able to buy a music comp and monitors. I agree about the little reverby arp. im planning to actually finish this one!

Quite a nice loop.

The drums are really good. But i think the kick might interact with your sub.
Its sounds a bit too low (as in Hz).This could turn into quite a nice darkstep tune imo.So far the FX and strings sound really good.A simple reese would fit the track pretty well.Giving it a second thought some more subs could do the trick too.
I think you should consider giving a try at this song.

PS.If you are into neurofunk check out my latest track please.

Hey man, thanks for reviewing!

I'm too tired to review your track now, but I took a quick listen to it and I liked what I heard haha. I'll go more in depth on it tomorrow. ;)

Very calming and soothing.

First of all i'd like to say i'm new to ambient (as in production) but recently i've tried making a track. So don't expect an indept review.I'm just wondering why are your tracks so underrated? They are quite nice in both composition and mastering.
Enough with that lets get with the review.
The pads are very nice but i think you could low cut them and use a sub bass instead of their low frequencies.Have to agree with VNStudios about the bells.
But don't dont lower them too much, just a tiny bit. Also pump up the volume on the hats (or are these shakers?).They seem way too back in the background.
The last thing i have to say is that your ending fade is a bit too long (atleast for me).
Very nice track all and all.Don't know how its so low rated.I hope i was of some use to you.Cheers and keep making music !

There are people who just don't like me, so they find my work and nuke the zero bomb. I don't have enough fans to counter that. Still, I make music because I like music. I'm not really into fame and fortune. I just share my work to everyone.

I'll post a revised version later. -KN

As harsh as i can get.

YOU SUCK AND DON'T DESERVE TO LIVE !

OK now lets get with the real review :)
Quite an impressive intro (seeing that you produce alot of ambient that's natural).
I like the IDM feel of the hats.I suggest that the break hits at 0:44 instead of the small pause you make.It would flow better with the increase of the volume of the hats. The panning of the percussion is nice too.Maybe lower the resonance on the filtered part of the drums though. Its a bit too much.I'd suggest variating the bass at 1:35 so it feel kinda like a drop (quite an important part in every dnb track), also adding a reversed and reverbed crash or a kick would be nice.
The bass that hits at 2:19 feels like that is where your intro needs to stop and the buildup it the drop to begin. The arp that follows in the background sounds like its missing something imo.Maybe some filter more prominent filter sweeps would sound nice. Also your kick seems to a bit a bit drown out in the second main part.Maybe the bass needs some EQ in the low end.Otherwise the drums are great for the general feeling of the track. The hats seem a tad too loud in the main parts though.Consider lowering them just a bit (probably -1dB from where they are now). The ambiance of the track is perfect and i congratulate you for that.Personally i like alot harder basses and tracks overall but i think you created quite a relaxing tune and it is very nice.Big up and keep making music !

Pretty nice.

Really nice atmosphere.
I like the vocal sample alot. You did well with limited samples.
Only complain is that it gets a bit repetitive.Other than that i like it alot.
Has a nice ambient feel to it.I don't know what to suggest knowing that you've only got a couple of dozen of samples. The ambiance of the track is great.Just work on the variation of the bass.Maybe add some parts with the bassline being filtered.Maybe some HP filter sweeps would be nice. Also would suggest processing your bass into a sine wave sounding sub and resampling it.Maybe some LP filter and a wave shaper could do the effect.Another suggestion is using the synth you introduced in the begging with a higher reverb and a delay once in a while (maybe each 16 bars...don't know really).Guess there aren't alot of drum and percussion samples available but try adding more if its possible.Since the bass is simple (but nice) try creating more flowing drums.
That's all i can suggest.I hope i was of some use.Keep up the good work.

Reignee responds:

i might still work on it later, but i already submitted my entry. i thought of the lowpass, hardly gave any change, but didn't think about the highpass, i'll probably test it one of these days. Tough thing about the bass is that I can't change it in note (due to the sample ^^) so the variation is pretty limited...

but hey, thanks man ;)

Not bad at all

Really liking the drums.
The bass needs some more power though.Maybe add some distortion or use the waveshaper, but dont go too hard cause it will ruin it.Also some chorus will be nice too.I'd like to suggest adding another bass too (hearing this you have 3 of them with different syncs 1/4 1/8 and 1/16) with a lower LFO speed to create more variation.I might also suggest adding an alarm fx (or some other uplifting synth) hitting with the snare in this particular song.
Other than that good job.Keep it up !

rashred responds:

you rate it 10/10 yet it says 9 xD

Pretty nice for a first try.

The vocals fit the song very good. The bass melody is really nice but the synth itself need alot of tweaking.First off all EQ it properly so its a bass (Not a sub bass and a bass in one) and maybe add a tiny bit of reverb on it.And as i mentioned you need a sub bass to bring out the power of the main bassline itself.
As for the drums and perc, i think the kick is pretty nice but when you create your sub bass it will affect it (its a bit low) and you should probably EQ or change it a bit.
The clap is nice too but i think it would be good if you add another one, shorter and maybe a bit harder with reduced reverb. And your hats are lacking the very reverb the clap has.
Overall a nice track indeed.Just need some tweaking.Good job !

mcdougall57 responds:

Thankyou :) Nice imput and I'm still learning but I will give your suggestions a go.

Quite a nice intro.

Cant say much cause its all up to you ti finish this track. From the direction its going i say maybe add some fading ambient like synths when the break hits. Also add some deep reverbed pads for a more solid background. The sub bass i like alot, but i think it would be nice to add a reese modulated with a LP or HP filter maybe with a low sync of lets say about 2/1.Other than its all up to you mate.Hope i gave you some stuff to think about and i'm looking forward hearing the finished piece.

10/10 5/5 :)

la-yinn responds:

Hey man, thanks for the constructive review! Sorry for responding so late, I kind of overlooked it until now.

I'm going to finish this track, but I also have a killer groove going on with roughly the same perc and a totally different style. I'm not sure which one I'm going to focus on, but we'll see.

I'll have a look at your stuff too. :- )

Like the idea but the result should be better.

Well its overall a very nice loop.I hear a pretty good drumloop behind the OVERPOWERING bass. There's too much reverb on the bass in my opinion.
One advice mate, your drums and your bass are your main elements and they should sounds equally present in the track and here its just a very loud bass and some background breaks.Maybe compress the bass, beef up the drums and EQ them a bit.I think that you should lower the volume of the bass and add some distortion.Other than that great job.I hope i was of some help and would like to hear this if you ever finish it.

PS. The bassline is modulated with a BP filter am i right?

BlackVen0m responds:

I know, I uploaded the early verison of it, I had fixed that problem with the over reverb and yes, the bassline is mainly modulated with a BP cutoff. :)

I can't do much about it now though that the VST I used had completely ruined itself... @_@

I like munching on your brains. http://soundcloud.co m/vade-dnb
